Primary school children across the South Cotswolds are being invited to design this year’s official Christmas card for Dr Roz Savage MP, with the winning entry set to be displayed in Parliament at Mr Speaker’s annual showcase.

Roz Savage, Liberal Democrat MP for South Cotswolds, has written to headteachers across the constituency inviting pupils from Reception to Year 6 to enter her annual Christmas card competition. This year’s theme is “A Very Merry Cotswold Christmas”, and children are encouraged to show what Christmas in the South Cotswolds looks like through their eyes – whether that’s Father Christmas flying over their village, a snowy countryside scene, or woodland animals enjoying some Christmas magic.

Each year, the Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle MP, hosts a showcase in Speaker’s House of Christmas cards designed by children from constituencies across the country. The winning South Cotswolds design will be displayed there, and will also become Roz’s official Christmas card, sent to people and organisations across the constituency.

The young artist behind the winning design will be invited to Parliament with a parent or carer for a tour, and to meet Roz to talk about the ideas behind their card.

Schools are asked to choose their favourite design and email it to roz.savage.mp@parliament.uk by Friday 23 October. Designs should be A5 portrait, and bright, bold colours reproduce best in print. Entries should be submitted as a clear scan or a photograph taken in good light, and glitter should be avoided as it makes accurate scanning difficult. Each entry should include the pupil’s first name, age, year group and school, along with confirmation that a parent or carer is happy for the design and the child’s first name to be shared publicly if selected.

“We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the country, and I would love to see what Christmas in the South Cotswolds looks like through children’s eyes. I know how much talent there is in our primary schools, so I’m expecting a very difficult decision.

“The theme could make a lovely class art lesson or whole-school activity before half term. I’m really looking forward to seeing a South Cotswolds design on display in Parliament, and to welcoming our winning artist to Westminster to hear all about it. Good luck to every pupil who takes part – I can’t wait to see what you create.”
