Dr Roz Savage MP is inviting residents affected by flooding to a South Cotswolds Flood Summit at Crudwell Village Hall on Friday 23 October, where they will hear directly from council flooding leads, water companies and agencies about the work under way to protect homes and communities.
The summit runs from 1pm to 4:30pm at Crudwell Village Hall, SN16 9HB. It will bring together residents, local flood action groups, council flooding officers and the organisations responsible for managing water and flood risk across the constituency.
Flooding remains one of the most pressing issues for communities across the South Cotswolds, from the Thames and Coln valleys on the Gloucestershire side to the Avon and its tributaries in Wiltshire. Many residents have contacted Roz’s office about repeated flooding of homes, roads and gardens, and about sewage escaping into streets and watercourses during heavy rain.
The afternoon will include:
- Updates from local council flooding leads and relevant agencies on current and planned work
- A chance to hear how local residents and flood groups are organising their own community response
- Answers to questions submitted in advance by residents to water companies and agencies
The event builds on Roz’s previous Flood Summits, held on both the Gloucestershire and Wiltshire sides of the constituency, which secured commitments from Thames Water to prioritise upgrades in communities including Fairford, Cricklade, Cirencester, Ewen, Ampney St Peter and Down Ampney, and to expand its Flood Warden scheme.
Registration is required. Residents can sign up via Eventbrite here
Roz Savage MP said:
“Anyone who has watched water come under their front door, or had to wade down their own street, knows that flooding is far more than an inconvenience. For many families in the South Cotswolds it is a recurring worry every time the forecast turns. I want to thank the flood wardens and community groups who do so much of this work on the ground. Their knowledge of our rivers and streets is invaluable. If flooding has affected you, please come along, hear what is being done and make sure your voice is heard.”
